About Our Temple
Approximately 300 years ago, in the quaint village of Buchanahalli, there lived a noble couple, Papi Reddy and Papamma. The village faced a devastating plague, causing most of the villagers to flee to nearby villages. Despite the dire circumstances, the Reddy family chose to remain in Buchanahalli.
Tragedy struck when Papi Reddy's three sons fell gravely ill with the disease. This heartbreaking turn of events forced Papi Reddy to contemplate leaving his beloved home. As he prepared to depart, he heard a mysterious voice saying, "Are you leaving me here and leaving?" Astonished, Papi Reddy realized it was the deity Shri Gagamma Devi, manifesting in the form of a stone.
Struck by this divine encounter, Papi Reddy made a solemn vow to the deity: if his sons were cured, he would offer three red-colored items in gratitude. Carrying the sacred stone, he moved to Papi Reddy Dinne, a place between Buchanahalli and Nachandahalli. Miraculously, his three sons recovered from the plague and thrived.
In fulfillment of his promise, Papi Reddy offered a red sari, red bangles, and red flowers to Shri Gagamma Devi. News of this miracle spread quickly, drawing people from all around to seek the blessings of the deity. Over time, the shrine grew in prominence and became a revered temple.
In 2007, Mr. Jayaram Reddy and his wife, Mrs. Radha Jayaram Reddy, honored this sacred legacy by constructing a magnificent temple on the very site where Shri Gagamma Devi had blessed the Reddy family centuries ago. Today, our temple stands as a testament to faith, devotion, and the enduring power of divine intervention.
Every year on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, the village festival takes place, lasting for three days. Devotees offer red sarees, red bangles, and red flowers to the deity. Instead of sacrificing goats or sheep, they observe the Karaga festival, which is also celebrated during this time. The event attracts over 5,000 people who come together to participate in the festivities.
